Outer Banks Child would like to announce that in January of 2019 we filed to establish a non-profit with plans to bring a children’s museum back to the Outer Banks. We know that this will be an arduous task and that we have many obstacles ahead; however, we know that with the community’s support we can make this dream a reality. We are excited to express our gratitude to Children and Youth Partnership for supporting our goals as our fiscal sponsor. This amazing organization has agreed to collect funds on our behalf as we anxiously await our non-profit status.
In 2008, Alyssa Hannon, with a plan and a goal, created Children at Play. This children’s museum brought much joy and educational value to so many children on the Outer Banks for 10 years. In December, Children at Play’s board made the difficult decision to close their Kitty Hawk location. We are honored that Alyssa is willing to pass on her dream. By starting a new location, we hope to continue pursuing her goals and concepts and also add additional amenities to meet the needs of children in our community.
How can you help Outer Banks Child with opening the new museum? Look for upcoming fundraisers and opportunities to volunteer or become a sponsor. We understand If you are not able to support a fundraiser, but maybe you can take a moment to share a post or tell a friend about an event. Every small step will help us meet our goals.
Thank you for your support. We will provide more details as the OBC Museum Board moves forward with plans on the new location.
